A SPORTSG PROGRAMME

STAGE 6 GOLD

Gold. Six strokes over 400 metres.

SwimSafer Gold is Stage 6 of 6 in Singapore's national water safety programme, and the final of the three named certificates (Bronze, Silver, Gold). Greater ease, efficiency, power and smoothness. Students make a float from wet long pants while treading deep water, and swim six strokes, three of them against the clock.

Clothing for assessment. Assessed in swimwear, long pants and t-shirt. A key skill is converting wet pants into a self-made float. It tests stamina and resourcefulness while weighed down by heavy, wet clothing.

On assessment day. A black swimming cap is issued to all Stage 6 participants when they arrive at the Centralised Assessment Centre.

To pass. The practical has to be 100% competent: every skill below must be shown. The online theory quiz needs 90% (see the SwimSafer theory test guide). The e-certificate is issued on CAMS once both are passed. Re-attempt rules are in the CAMS handbook.
